Acting and Theatre
To get into a character and play it well is difficult. It takes a lot of effort and skill.
Creating theatre, however, is a totally different experience. The actor not only has to play the character well, he/she has to create the world the character is living in.
Should an actor stop at just being characters on stage? Or is there another way an actor could be challenged to think about the environment he/she is playing in?
Young Monologues programme aims to accomplish both of the above. It is a specific incubation programme to develop young practitioner-actors, assisting them to create their own theatre productions. They will be trained in voice, movement, text and social studies over the period of 3 months. After which, a small production will be staged to showcase their works to the public – to be scrutinised.
And, we encourage them to continue refining their work/skill in the theatre by creating more productions. That's why the Young Monologues Programme is not a one-off event for its members. It is the beginning of a life-long theatre creation journey. Little Red Shop will also assist alumni members to stage their subsequent productions upon completion of the programme.
We hope more practitioner-actors will continue to create theatre that is relevant to the world.
