Manifesto

We define theatre as the space where performative art-works take life. Life, as an experience that involves all human senses (sight, smell, hearing and taste) and sensibilities (physical, intellectual and emotional), that seeks to respectfully communicate with audiences, be it entertainment or education.

Our society consists of a collective of people living and sharing a common space.

Hence, Little Red Shop -- as a theatre society -- is a space where theatre peoples live and share their art-practices, experiences, intellectual wealth in creating human experiences that allows audiences to be tangibly and intangibly entertained and educated about life.

The artistic direction of the society lies in creating contemporary art that reflects social philanthropy. The form of art that prevails in the time of the day depends on the collective decisions on art-practices determined by the President of the society and its executive committee members.

The Little Red Shop

Little Red Shop -- as a theatre society -- is a space where theatre peoples live and share their art-practices, experiences, intellectual wealth in creating human experiences that allows audiences to be tangibly and intangibly entertained and educated about life. The artistic direction of the society lies in creating contemporary art that reflects social philanthropy. The form of art that prevails in the time of the day depends on the collective decisions on art-practices determined by artists within the society.

Little Red Shop is a registered Singapore theatre society.

(Reg No: 2142/2006).

It’s objectives are: 

a)    To develop multilingual theatre in Singapore and beyond.  

b)    To focus on artistic exchanges among solo artists in Singapore (and around the world) – In collaboration with Chinese Performing Arts Theatre Exchange Network.

c)    To work with theatre artists from the region, with a view to establishing a network of these artists and furthering the state of Singapore theatre.

d)    To develop new young performers engaging in solo or small group theatre projects so as to keep intimate theatre alive.  

e)    To develop charity projects that help underprivileged youths to engage in solo performances so as to build strength and resilience in life.

f)    To bring new theatre forms to Singapore.

Little Red Shop is committed to reviving small productions in Singapore. New forms of performances will also be developed. We believe theatre should not be classified according to language medium. It should be about current practices. Hence, contemporary theatre should be the focus of theatre today.
